Around 20.000 young females have been abused by female genital mutilation in Amsterdam. The mayor of Amsterdam Mrs. Femke Halsema recognizes this, but sees it as part of an older culture. She does nothing to prevent it. Another 4.200 young female children are under threat of sending to other countries to be abused. For other cities their has been no research.
Female genital mutilation is an Islamic practice that is also supported by theology. One of the four Islamic schools of law requires female genital mutilation. The other three Islamic schools of law do not require circumcision, but they do recommend it. It is remarkable that wherever genital mutilation occurs, Muslims have ruled, are a majority or are nearby, even when it occurs among non-Muslims.
Dutch Muslim girl Ryan was found by an employee of Staatsbosbeheer in the water of the Oostvaardersplassen, near Lelystad, on May 28, 2024. Her arms were tied behind her back with tape, her legs were taped together and there was a piece of tape over her mouth. The 18-year-old girl from Joure was the victim of honor killing.
In patriarchal societies, the activities of girls and women are closely monitored. The maintenance of a woman’s virginity and “sexual purity” are considered to be the responsibility of male relatives—first her father and brothers and then her husband. Victims of honor killings usually are alleged to have engaged in “sexually immoral” actions, ranging from openly conversing with men who are not related to them to having sex outside of marriage (even if they are the victims of rape or sexual assault).
Despite modernization processes, and at times owing to concerns about these processes, the use of honor killings as a tool to strengthen patriarchal control seems to be widening. Albania, Cyprus, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland are the countries where honour killings are practiced. But majority of such happenings are of immigrants.
In United Kingdom, every year at least a dozen women are victims of honour killings almost exclusively within Asian and Middle East families. UK’s Iranian and Kurdish women’s Rights organization is reported that about two thirds are Muslims, yet they can also be Hindus and Sikhs. One Sikh woman was killed by her father because he disapproved of her being ‘too westernized’ and also disapproved of the fact that she was dating a non-Sikh man.
The muslim culture in the Western countries should realize if they want part of the westernized culture, the shall allow the freedoms of the Western culture. The politician of the Western culture shall stop the violence against and abuse of women and children. The UN Human Rights organizations are corrupted by older cultures and do nothing. If the older cultures do not listen, the death penalty for those crimes, also in the EU and the UK, must be considered.
